Claude for Open Source gives open-source maintainers 6 months of Claude Max 20x at no cost. Anthropic frames it as a thank-you for the ecosystem rather than a startup program, so there is no funding requirement and no company age limit - eligibility is judged on your contribution record alone. When the 6 months end, a previously paid plan resumes at its original rate and everyone else drops to the free tier.

How to apply
5 steps- Check that you meet at least one threshold. Maintainers: 500+ dependent repos, 100+ dependent packages, or 200,000+ combined monthly downloads.
- Or qualify as a core contributor: a listed committer or maintainer on CPython, the Rust team, Node.js TSC, an Apache PMC, CNCF, Kubernetes, the Linux kernel, Django, Rails or similar.
- Or as an active contributor: 100+ pull requests merged into repos you do not own in the last 12 months.
- Or as a community builder: one of your repos had 20+ unique external contributors with merged pull requests in the last 12 months. Or critical infrastructure: any repo you maintain has an OpenSSF criticality score of 0.4 or above.
- Apply at https://claude.com/contact-sales/claude-for-oss and describe what you maintain. Anthropic adds that if you maintain something the ecosystem quietly depends on, you should apply anyway.
