$120Students 13+ verified through GitHub Education
Eligibility & conditions
GitHub gives students verified through GitHub Education the Copilot Student plan for free, with unlimited code completions, 200 GitHub AI Credits a month for chat and agents, and models chosen by auto model selection only, plus free GitHub Pro while you are a student. Students aged 13 or over in a degree- or diploma-granting program, including high school and homeschool, can apply with a school email or dated proof of enrollment, and GitHub rechecks eligibility every month. The $120 is a ceiling based on Copilot Pro at $10 a month, which includes 1,500 AI credits a month and a selection of models, so the student plan is worth less in practice. Approval and Copilot activation are separate steps, and the benefit can take several days to appear.

How to apply
5 steps- Go to GitHub Education for students and select Join GitHub Education while signed in to your personal GitHub account.
- If your school issues academic emails, add and verify yours on your GitHub account first, then select Start an application, as explained in GitHub's application guide.
- Submit the form with proof of current enrollment, such as a school ID showing the enrollment date, a class schedule, a transcript or an enrollment verification letter.
- After approval, open your Education benefits settings, select Learn more under Free GitHub developer resources for students and teachers, and follow the prompts to activate Copilot Student, as described in GitHub's Copilot Student guide.
- The benefit can take several days to apply. If only paid Copilot options appear, do not buy a plan; wait a few days and try again, and contact GitHub Support if it still does not appear.
