OpenRouter routes one API across 500+ frontier and open models, so a single credit balance covers models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta and others without separate provider accounts. The startup program gives approved teams up to $3,000 in universal inference credits plus 0% processing fees for 12 months, covering both platform fees and BYOK fees. Credits expire 6 months after issuance, while the fee waiver runs the full 12 months even after the credits are spent. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with no deadline, but eligibility requires a referral from an approved OpenRouter partner.

How to apply
5 steps- Create an OpenRouter account using a professional email on your own company domain. Generic aliases such as admin@, support@ or ops@ are rejected, and free consumer email domains do not qualify.
- Line up a referral from an approved OpenRouter partner (a VC fund, accelerator or ecosystem organization). OpenRouter lists this as an eligibility requirement on the program page, so secure it before applying. If your investor or accelerator is not a partner yet, they can apply to become one through the partner form linked at the bottom of the program page FAQ.
- Confirm you meet the rest of the criteria: pre-Series B, building an AI-native product full-time, a live public company website, under $500 in lifetime OpenRouter spend, and no startup credits received before.
- Go to https://openrouter.ai/startups, click Apply Now, sign in when redirected, and complete the form at https://openrouter.ai/startups/application describing your startup and what you are building.
- Wait for the review. OpenRouter says it uses reasonable efforts to decide within a few days. If approved, credits and the fee waiver are applied automatically to the account tied to the applicant email, and you are notified by email including the credit expiration date.
